The owners tasked Flow Design Architects with transforming an existing 2.5-story two-family home into a cohesive luxury single-family residence. The project required rethinking the home’s function within the constraints of a dense Cambridge neighborhood. Rather than expanding the footprint, the goal was to maximize the existing 4,663 square feet by consolidating two units into one seamless home, reorganizing circulation, and modernizing the exterior. This process required navigating complex zoning and safety regulations while preserving the original building envelope. The result balances preservation with transformation, creating a modern home without altering the building’s scale.
